Enjoyed the transcript of your little conversation with Merab as well.
Building a house....hmmm... I am trying hard not to say, " What a strange idea...", but if you build something like the one in the picture, let me know... I'll drop in on a rainy day. :))
Things that absoulutely suffocate me are shoebox appartments and iron grills on windows. If i ever build a house it IS likely to be like this one. The walls are actually compressed mud made out of the soil that was dug out for foundation. Gives a great feeling of being connected to the ground.
Yes, that was the most beautiful house I ever stayed in! With all those windows and wide window sills and nice unobtrusive furniture and So Much Light - and tea gardens and pear trees and birdsong all around!! In fact, all of Anita's houses were interesting - the rented houses she stayed in before in Gudalur and Kotagiri. She is the first person I have met who rented a house that is ancient, freezing cold most of the year, and has no proper water supply, just because of the fabulous view - a circle of hills and a valley and amazing sunsets!
